From BizX Magazine:

Started in 2021, Picsume is a hiring platform that helps job seekers create dynamic work profiles and connect with employers. Their goal is to redefine the hiring process by making it more efficient and meaningful for both candidates and employers. In a nutshell, it's redefining hiring through ethical AI innovation.

"At Picsume, AI is really at the heart of what we do," says Nick Mastromattei, Chief Technology Officer at Picsume Inc. "One of our most exciting developments is our non-biased employment matching algorithm. It's designed to evaluate candidates based on objective factors like their skills, experience, and certifications, helping employers find the right talent without letting unconscious biases creep into the process."

Picsume has partnered up with the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (AMII)—one of the leading AI research groups in Canada—to ensure their algorithm is both effective and ethical.

"We're also proud to say that we've secured funding through the Industrial Research Assistance Program and the Scientific Research and Experimental Development program," Mastromattei reports. "They have been instrumental in driving our AI and machine learning development forward by allowing us to move faster and stay focused on building tools that make hiring fairer and more efficient for everyone."

Jordan Goure, President and CEO of Picsume Inc., discusses how many small businesses use AI to make their day-to-day operations smoother and more efficient.

"For example, in recruitment, AI is helping small businesses sift through resumes, match candidates to open roles, and even schedule interviews—all things that used to take a ton of time and resources," he adds. "AI is also big in customer services. Chatbots, for instance, are now able to handle a lot of customer inquiries 24/7, which is a game changer for businesses that don't have large support teams."

Goure goes on to explain that AI is also improving marketing by allowing small businesses to personalize their campaigns to better connect with their audience.

"Even operations like inventory management or forecasting are being streamlined with AI tools," he comments. "At Picsume, we've specifically built our platform to help small businesses use AI for hiring, whether it's finding candidates faster or automating parts of the hiring process."

Goure offers an example of one manufacturing company they worked with, which was struggling to fill skilled labor positions quickly enough to keep up with demand. After using their AI-driven recruitment platform, they cut their time-to-hire by nearly half and avoided downtime that would have cost thousands of dollars.

"Another great story is a hospitality business with high turnover rates—a common challenge in that industry," Goure continues. "Using our AI matching and dynamic work profiles, they started hiring candidates who were not only a good fit for the job but also more likely to stay long-term. That led to a noticeable drop in turnover, which saved them a lot of time and money in the long run."

In general, he has found that AI is a huge equalizer for small businesses. It allows them to do more with less—whether that's automating repetitive tasks, gaining insights from data, or delivering personalized customer experiences.

"For example, a small retailer using AI for inventory management can ensure they're stocking the right products at the right time, just like a big chain with a dedicated team of analysts," says Goure. "In hiring, AI can help small businesses compete by giving them access to the same tools that larger companies use—tools like our non-biased matching algorithm. Even with a small HR team, businesses can quickly find and engage top talent, which is a big advantage in today's competitive labor market."
