In the rapidly evolving world of tech startups, Picsume stands out as a local success story with global ambitions. The Windsor-based company, co-founded by brothers Jordan and Joshua Goure alongside their long-time friend Nick Mastromattei, is revolutionizing how businesses connect with potential employees. Just a year after its product launch, Picsume has already earned the title of the most innovative company in its region and has also been recognized by the WeTech ScaleUP program as the company with the most growth potential. Notably, they also secured significant funding, including support from the I.D.E.A. fund and two other innovation agencies.
The journey of Picsume started long before its official launch in 2021. The idea had been brewing for over a decade, influenced by the Goure brothers’ personal experiences as successful business owners in various sectors such as hospitality, micro-manufacturing and real estate development. Across all these ventures, they encountered the same persistent challenge—staffing. Determined to find a solution, they reached out to Nick Mastromattei, a seasoned enterprise tech expert, to bring their vision to life.
With Mastromattei’s expertise in building enterprise software for some of the world’s largest companies such as Ticketmaster, Harvard and Steelcase, the trio aimed to transform the hiring landscape. Their mission was clear: innovate the centuries-old application process starting with the resume. In the era of AI, it was time to redefine the hiring process. Picsume’s dynamic work profiles were designed to modernize the job application process, making it more efficient and unbiased.
“Hiring shouldn’t be a burden,” says Jordan Goure. The brothers recognized that sorting through countless resumes, verifying availability, scheduling interviews, and assessing experience were time-consuming hurdles for employers. The traditional methods were outdated, biased, and ineffective. They saw the opportunity to create a platform that allows employers to review applicants efficiently, leveling the playing field for job seekers while saving valuable time for businesses.
Despite early offers to relocate, the team chose to keep Picsume rooted in Windsor-Essex. “During our first investment meetings, we were regularly asked if Picsume would relocate to a number of cities across North America, including Toronto and Buffalo. In the current plugged in world, we didn’t see any reason not to dig in our heels and build award-winning software right here in Windsor-Essex. After all, we are a couple of guys from Blenheim, Ontario, with a population of just over 4,000. Windsor was the big city to us. Having completed university here and launched several successful businesses, we know the strength and resiliency of entrepreneurs in this region,” explains Goure.
Picsume’s story is not just about creating a business; it’s about staying true to their roots while building a platform that addresses a universal problem, one that impacts companies of all sizes. From a small-town idea to an award-winning startup with their first successful raise behind them, the Goure brothers and their team are proving that with determination, innovation, and a local focus, big success can be built anywhere.
